Patient Preparation

You will be required (as by law) to bring the original requisition (prescription), signed by your doctor as well as your medicare card. If it is necessary for the technician to inject a contrast (colorant) in order to obtain best quality images, you will be required to fast (no food or drink) for a period of three hours before the exam. Medications should be taken on the advice of the doctor as per usual with a minimal amount of water.

Gadolium, as the colorant name is known, does not contain iodine and therefore greatly reduces the risk of allergic reaction. You will not feel any sensations during or after the injection of the colorant. For some specific exams, it may be necessary to measure your creatine levels through blood testing before the exam. This will be ordered by the treating physician and can be done at a healthcare facility of your choice.

Fasting is not necessary if an injection of Gadolium is not required for the exam.
Once the patient has arrived at the center, preferable 15 to 30 minutes before the exam time and is registered, they will be asked to change into a gown, housecoat and slippers in the private change room. Personal lockers are available for their clothing and other valuables and the patient will keep the key with them. Whenever possible, it is recommended to leave jewelry at home the day of the exam.

If you are accompanied to the center, friends and family will wait for you in our comfortable waiting area.
